Whats happened and what is coming up.
Welcome to Room 5's review of the term. and what is coming up for Term 2.
This term we began the year by selecting our School Leaders and House Leaders. The children who wanted to stand gave very interesting speeches to the class. We now have Brittnee Vincent, Connor Gleeson, and Taylor Rigter as Year 8 Leaders, along with Peta McGiven as Year 7 Leader.
Bus Monitors from Room 5 have been selected and trained by the NZ Police. Congratulations to Connor, Conrad, Ngahere, Brittnee, Marieka, Libby, Taylor and Jeroen who are now trained bus monitors.
During Week 5 we all enjoyed the Bikewise Module taken by Project Energise.
In Week 6 our Youing Vinnies were comissioned at the Hamilton Cathedral. Special thanks to Mrs Butler for arranging this.
Week 7 saw us involved in the Zero Waste Programme. As well as that we were all involved with our Inquiry Unit on Cockroaches. We have completed lots of research so that we could construct effective traps. It has been great fun and lots of learning has been done. Lets hope we catch some cockroaches in the holidays.Do come and have a look at our charts which are all on display in the Library.
Many students in Room 5 have also been involved in Inter-School Swimming and Thames Valley Swimming, organising whole school tabloids for Solidarity Day and enjoyed Kiwi Golf instructions and games.
We are now happy to have a break and get ready for Term 2.
Term 2:
Room 5 has lots of learning experiences on their calendar for next term.
Chocolates will continued to be sold for school camp fundraising.
In Week 1 we hope to have our leaders and other students attend the ANZAC Day Service on Wednesday 25 April beginning at approximately 9:45am at the RSA. PLease remember to inform the office if you will be attending. Children will be required to be in school uniform.
In Week 2 we will be visiting the Hamilton Zoo, to begin an Inquiry Unit on animal enrichment. This has a BP Challenge competition attached, so we will attempt to send entries to that.
We will be designing Olympic Games "T" Shirts and entering them into a competition also.
Furthermore Room 5 school leaders will enjoy a trip to Rotorua to attend Young Leaders Day in Week 3.
Week 4 is Winter Tournament, hosted by us and held at Boyd Park.
During Week 5 Room 5 will will take part in a Red Cross Day and work towards gaining a First Aid Certificate.
Last, but not least, throughout the term we will be working on our School Wide Production ( presented in Week 9) Some children will have major roles to play in this years production.
Just a reminder also that the Colleges will be in and out of our senior room talking to the students about college life. All these details will be outlined in the school newsletters.
We are all look forward to Term 2 and the exciting learning challenges it will hold.
Lots to look forward to and lots of learning to get done.
